Borrowed from Hokkien 地陷 (tē-hām, “pitfall trap”), according to Manuel (1948) from Piñol (1937). Alternatively, from Hokkien 底 (té, “sole”) + 銜 / 衔 (hâm, “to join”), according to Chan-Yap (1980), which she defined as “joined sole”.
