Inherited from Ottoman Turkish تدریجاً (tedricen), from Arabic تَدْرِيجًا (tadrījan) adverbial accusative of تَدْرِيج (tadrīj), verbal noun of دَرَّجَ (darraja, “to step forward, to proceed gradually”).By surface analysis, tedriç (“gradual progress”) + -en.
