A conflation of two different verbs:
Proto-Sabaki *-tatula (“to untangle”), from Proto-Bantu *-tátʊda. By surface analysis -tata (“tangle”) + -ua (converse affix). This is cognate with Ndzwani Comorian -tratrua and Chimwiini -tatuɫa.
Proto-Sabaki *-cancua (“to resolve, to unravel”), inherited through a Northern dialect. This is cognate with Ngazidja Comorian -tsantsua.
