tarla
التعريفات والمعاني
== Azerbaijani ==
=== Etymology ===
From Proto-Common Turkic *tar + -la. This noun-deriving suffix is also present in Azerbaijani çağala, yayla and damla. Cognate with Turkish tarla and Chagatai تارلا (tarla, “sown field”).
Compare a similar formation with the same base of derivation and the suffix -lag in Chagatai [script needed] (tarlag), Cuman-Kipchak tarlov, Kumyk тарлав (tarlaw), Nogai тарлав (tarlav), Karachay-Balkar тарлау (tarlau), Bashkir and Tatar тарлау (tarlaw), Khakas тарлағ (tarlağ, “ploughed field”).
Alternatively, from Old Anatolian Turkish *tarï-la, from Proto-Oghuz *tarïg-lag, supposed cognate of Karakhanid تَرِغْلاغْ (tarïğlāğ), Old Uyghur 𐾀𐽰𐽾𐽶𐽲𐾁𐽰𐽲 (tʾryqlʾq /tarïġlaġ/) and
Old Turkic 𐱃𐰺𐰍𐰞𐰍 (t¹r¹ǧl¹ǧ /tarïɣlaɣ/),
going back to Proto-Common Turkic *tarïg-lag.
