Inherited from Ottoman Turkish تعقیب ایتمك (tʿaḳib itmek, etmek), from Arabic تَعْقِيب (taʕqīb), verbal noun of عَقَّبَ (ʕaqqaba, “to follow, to succeed”), equivalent to takip (“pursuit, follow-up”) + etmek (“to do, to make”).
