Inherited from Ottoman Turkish تحریك (taḥrik, “a moving, causing to move or vibrate, inciting, impelling, instigating, a medicine's moving the bowels”), from Arabic تَحْرِيك (taḥrīk), verbal noun of حَرَّكَ (ḥarraka, “to move, to put in motion, to activate”). Cognates with Azerbaijani təhrik.
