From Ottoman Turkish تورهمك (türemek, “to start into existence, increase and multiply”), from Old Anatolian Turkish دورومك (dörümäk, dürümäk), دوریمك (döremäk, dörimäk, “to be born, come into existence”), from Proto-Turkic *törü- (“to be born, originate”), ultimately from Proto-Turkic *töŕ (“foundation, root; origin, ancestors”) and related to Yakut төрүт (törüt, “origin”).
