Variant of tämä, which is an extension of a monosyllabic stem *tä- from which the genitive form is directly derived. The long vowel in the nominative form could be by analogy with the diphthong in tuo and toi (both from *too) and/or the adverbs täällä, täältä, or it could simply be a reduction of the medial -m-.
