szałwia
التعريفات والمعاني
== Polish ==
=== Etymology ===
Learned borrowing from Latin salvia, from salvus.
=== Pronunciation ===
IPA(key): /ˈʂaw.vja/
Rhymes: -awvja
Syllabification: szał‧wia
=== Noun ===
szałwia f
sage, any plant of the genus Salvia
==== Declension ====
==== Note ====
Etymologically, the declension should follow the pattern for Latinate nouns ending in -ia (see e.g. historia, entalpia), and thus contain geminated i in the genitive, dative, locative and genitive plural. However, the word is highly assimilated, and thus the native feminine declension with single i is also common. Current usage on the Internet seems to favor the geminated i form by around 3:1.
==== Descendants ====
→ Yiddish: שאַלוויִע (shalvie)
