From Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *sujud (“fine-toothed lice comb”), possibly borrowed via an intermediary language or existed as *sulod with elision of /l/ becoming /j/ instead of /w/ or /ʔ/. Compare Central Bikol surod, Dupaningan Agta surod, and Molbog surud.
