== Finnish == === Etymology === Uncertain. One possibility considered is a loan from Old East Slavic *съкальꙗ (*sŭkalĭja) (compare Russian скалья́ (skalʹjá)). Another is relation to sukkela (“quick, swift”) (as the shuttle is sent back and forth during weaving; compare the synonym syöstävä from syöstä).
