It could take an omitted esse. "I hope that you will like these things" could be expressed with "Haec tibi spērō fore ut placeant" or with "Haec tibi placitūra (esse) spērō". In the first example it takes the future infinitive fore, which only in turn takes the conjunction ut. Impersonally one could say "spēs est". Roman usage of spērō was not as broad as that of English "I hope".
