Related to Old Norse skoltr (“brow”), skolptr (“muzzle, snout”), Icelandic skoltur (“jaw”), Swedish skult (“dome, crown of the head, skull”), Norwegian Nynorsk skult, skolt (“cranium, head (of a hammer); crag; hub”); possibly related to Latin celsus (“lofty, high, tall”), collis (“hill”).
