sittanäri
التعريفات والمعاني
== Ingrian ==
=== Etymology ===
From sitta (“feces”) + Proto-Finnic *närhi, due to the bird's habit of scavenging of dung heaps. Compare dialectal Finnish paskanärhi and Estonian pasknäär.
The loss of the medial -h- is irregular in most dialects, but regular in the Ala-Laukaa dialect. It's possible that this word spread from one dialect to the others, or was borrowed from a Southern Finnic language. Alternatively, analogy with the verb närriä (“to chew”) might have played a role.
