Genericized trademark, from American English Gillette, the name of a popular American company producing safety razors, named after the inventor and the founder of the company, King C. Gillette.
This is one of the earliest genericized trademarks in Indonesian, since it followed the French pronunciation of the surname (/ʒi.lɛt/) instead of modern English one (/dʒɪ.ˈlɛt/).
