From Proto-Albanian *skunta, either a nasal present of Proto-Indo-European *skeut- or from *sku(n)t-, *ku(n)t- (“to shake, rattle”).
Close to Latin excutere, Italian scuotere and Proto-Germanic *skundijaną (“to drive, push, compel, rush”) (compare English shunt).
Cognate to Middle Irish scothaid (“to cut off”), Lithuanian skutù (“to scrape”) and Latin scindō (“to tear into parts”).
