Borrowed from Javanese ꦱꦼꦩ꧀ꦧꦿꦤ (sembrana, “nonchalant, careless; rude”), from Old Javanese sambarana (“careless, indifferent; modest, simple”), probably from Sanskrit सम्भरण (sambharaṇa, “preparation; composition; collection”). Reinforced by semantic loan from Dutch roekeloos (“reckless”) in law terms.
