From Old Sundanese sampura (“forgiveness, mercy; favor”) + sun (“I, me, my”). Literally, "I ask for [your] forgiveness/mercy". Compare Malay tabik from Sanskrit क्षन्तव्य (kṣantavya, “may I be pardoned; pardon me”).
