From سورونمك or Ottoman Turkish سورنمك (sürünmek, “to rub something on or in, to rub one's self against, to crawl or grovel on the ground”), from Ottoman Turkish سورمك (sürmek, “to drive before one, to push along, to drive away, to rub on, to go on, to extend”), from Proto-Turkic *sür- (“to drive before one, to herd, to drive away”), morphologically sür- + -ün- + -mek.
