ryhtyä
التعريفات والمعاني
== Finnish ==
=== Alternative forms ===
ryyhtyä (dialectal, Savonia)
ryöhtyä (dialectal, South Karelia)
=== Etymology ===
Uncertain, related to Karelian ryyhtyö.
SSA theorizes the etymology as follows: ryhtyä may be generalized from eastern dialectal ryyhtyä, ryöhtyä (according to the pattern Western huhtoa ~ Eastern huuhtoa), which in turn could be secondarily fronted from an original rohtua ~ ruohtua (or otherwise derived from ruoho), perhaps with influence from yhtyä. Originally, ryhtyä ~ ryyhtyä may have referred to developing a rash or being caught on something, from which the sense “to begin” may have developed (compare ruveta, if derived from rupi (“scab”)).
