From Proto-Finnic *rohkëda (compare Estonian rohke, Ingrian rohkia, Karelian rohkei, Veps rohked), from earlier *rošketa, possibly borrowed from a Germanic language (compare Proto-Germanic *raskuz, Old Norse rǫskr), or alternatively from the same root as rohtia.
