=== Etymology ===
From Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (qurdamak), appended with the intensifying suffix -ələ. Cognate with Turkish kurcalamak, (Ottoman Turkish [script needed] (kurcalamak) and older Ottoman Turkish [script needed] (kurdalamak)). According to Nishanyan, ultimately of ideophonic or onomatopoetic origin, imitating the sound or motion associated with scratching or picking, to which Turkish forms like kırç ~ kırt are related.
Perhaps also influenced by the form qurd (“worm”), as the finger movement resembles a moving worm while poking/picking at something.
