qilla
التعريفات والمعاني
== Maltese ==
=== Etymology ===
Probably from Arabic غِلّ (ḡill). Merger of غ [ɣ~ʁ] and ق [q] occurs regularly in some dialects of the Arabian penninsula and sometimes also in Sudan. While Maltese is generally not affected by this development, it was assisted here by the fact that the root ق ل ل (q l l) has some related senses. In particular, the meaning “to be seized by anger” is attested for أُقِلَّ (ʔuqilla), passive of أَقَلَّ (ʔaqalla).
