== Latin == === Etymology === May be a back-formation from pusillus, with analogical vowel un-shortening (see the latter for details), from Proto-Indo-European *put-lo- (“son”). Alternatively, might be connected with puer, paucus and pūpus, from Proto-Indo-European *peh₂w- (“few, small”).
