From German Polyhalit, from Ancient Greek πολύς (polús) + Ancient Greek ἅλς (háls) + -ite. Polyhalite is unrelated to halite other than name.

polyhalite (countable and uncountable, plural polyhalites)
(mineralogy) A mineral usually occurring in fibrous masses, of a brick-red color, being tinged with iron, and consisting chiefly of the sulphates of lime, magnesia, and soda.
