From pissa (“pee”) + Liisa (common female name).
According to Heikki Paunonen, a professor of Finnish language, the word may be related to the term kusipää (“bastard, asshole”, literally “piss-head”).
According to folk etymology, from public urination when intoxicated, although this is by no means the distinctive feature of the stereotype.
