pikkulauantai

التعريفات والمعاني

== Finnish == === Etymology === pikku (“little”) +‎ lauantai (“Saturday”), probably a calque of Swedish lillördag. Possibly from a custom of organizing "weekend activities" on Wednesday or Thursday in order to keep the Sabbath holy—in Lutheran Finland, the Sabbath would begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Alternatively, may be related to a custom whereby servants had their day off in the middle of the week. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˈpikːuˌlɑu̯.ɑntɑi̯/, [ˈpikːuˌlɑ̝u̯.(w)ɑ̝n̪t̪ɑ̝i̯] Rhymes: -ɑuɑntɑi Syllabification(key): pik‧ku‧lau‧an‧tai Hyphenation(key): pikku‧lauan‧tai === Noun === pikkulauantai (colloquial) Wednesday as a day of light celebration, relaxation, drinking etc. ==== Declension ====
