pihatto

piha + -tto, or perhaps originally a contraction of piha + aitta (compare navetta, perhaps originally a contraction of nauta + aitta); note that this word is attested as pihaitta in Agricola's works. It has also been proposed that the initial part is not piha (although may have become folk-etymologically associated with it), but derives instead from Proto-Germanic *fehu.
