From Serbo-Croatian pazariti (“to shop”) + -ol (verb-forming suffix); from pazar (“bazaar, market”), from Ottoman Turkish پازار (pazar), from Persian بازار (bâzâr, “bazaar, market”). Its stem is a doublet of bazár and vásár.

The verb pazarol without the perfective prefix el- usually refers to a gradual process in the sense of the verb. With the perfective prefix, elpazarol indicates that the process is (was, will be) completed and a final state is achieved.
