== Albanian == === Alternative forms === apânga — Gheg opangë, opengë === Etymology === From Proto-Albanian *api + *ga, *api also giving rise to hap (“step”). Related to hap (“open”). According to Orel, from Proto-Slavic *ob(ъ)pьnъkъ (“sandal, shoe”), comparing Serbo-Croatian opanak, though differences between the Gheg and Tosk forms may suggest otherwise; as per Fortson, a Proto-Albanian origin is supported due to the held view that the two dialects split prior to Slavic contact. Compare Romanian opincă. === Noun === opingë f (plural opinga, definite opinga, definite plural opingat) Traditional leather shoes worn by Albanians in Albania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Greece (by the Arvanites) and the Arbëresh villages of Italy. ==== Declension ==== ==== Derived terms ==== opingar (“opinga-maker”) === References === === Further reading === “opingë”, in FMGJSH: Fjalor i madh i gjuhës shqipe (in Albanian), 2026
