Compare with Yoruba àdín (“palm kernel oil”), Èkìtì Yoruba ùdín (“palm kernel oil”), Ìjẹ̀bú Yoruba ùdẹ́n (“palm kernel oil”), Igala ìdí (“palm kernel oil”), Edo údẹ́n (“palm oil ointment”), Igbo ùde (“ointment, palm oil ointment”), Nupe èdín (“palm kernel oil”), Nupe èdĩ, Edo ẹdi (“nut, palm nut”), Urhobo edi, with a much deeper etymology, it is proposed to be derived from a Proto-Niger-Congo root, see Usaghade útén (“oil palm”), Ibibio adan (“oil”), and Proto-Bantu *mʊ̀téndé
