===== Usage notes =====
Not well enough attested in Old Irish to be certain of either the declension class or the exact meaning. However, comparative evidence suggests an ī-stem (Proto-Indo-European *ih₂-stem), which is consistent with the modern Irish form. The oldest attestation is simply a gloss of Latin neptis, which like most ancient Indo-European cognates can mean both “niece” and “granddaughter”.

Irish: neacht
