Inherited from Proto-Bantu *ntʊ̀ìgà (“giraffe”). Hinde (1904) records ndwiga as an equivalent of English giraffe in “Jogowini dialect” of Kikuyu, listing also Kamba ndia and Swahili twiga as its equivalents.
