=== Noun ===
mustikka
bilberry, common bilberry, European blueberry, blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus); a common shrub in Finland, and its fruit
Synonym: kangasmustikka
(loosely) blueberry, bilberry; any of several closely related species in the genus Vaccinium with blue fruit, or those fruit
==== Usage notes ====
The Finnish term mustikka generally refers to the berry of Vaccinium myrtillus, making it less broad than English blueberry and correspond to English bilberry (or "European blueberry") in most cases. However, broadly speaking, mustikka can mean any similar plant in the genus Vaccinium, of which Vaccinium myrtillus is the only species naturally growing in Finland (alongside juolukka, which is generally understood as separate from mustikka). When referring specifically to North American forms of blueberry, one might e.g. use the adjective amerikkalainen, or use the species name (e.g. pensasmustikka for Vaccinium corymbosum).
