Borrowed from Betawi macet, from Javanese ꦩꦕꦼꦠ꧀ (macet), ꦥꦕꦼꦠ꧀ (pacet, “impasse, deadlocked, blocked”), from Old Javanese cĕt (“in a moment, all at once, in a flash”). Probably from Proto-Mon-Khmer *tət (“blocked, to block”).
