Cognate with Proto-Slavic *lě̄skà (“hazel”), seemingly from a Proto-Indo-European *lazdā-. Cognates include Latvian lazda (“hazel”), lagzda, as well as perhaps Proto-Slavic *loza (“vine”) and Old Armenian լաստ (last, “raft”).
