Nevertheless, when translating to English, it is often better in English to use the active voice and add a pronoun not found in the Finnish original. One way of explaining this verb is that an object can so to speak "get itself found" in Finnish, and this is expressed with a verb that is actually intransitive and in the active voice. löytyä takes the elative (or, with some words, ablative) case for location, i.e. answers the question "where ... from?" instead of "where?". The elative (possibly also the ablative or a similar form with adverbs) case is used with etsiä, löytyä, löytää, lukea and kuulla. (i.e. "where ... from?" instead of "where?").
