Borrowed from Javanese ꦏꦼꦠꦤ꧀ (ketan, “glutinous rice”), from Old Javanese kĕtan, lakĕtan (“glutinous rice”, literally “sticky thing”). Doublet of lengketan. Displaced native pulut (whence Standard Malay pulut).
