From Ottoman Turkish قالدرمق (kaldırmak, “to lift up, raise, pick up, set up, erect, carry, wake up, take away, abrogate”), causative form of Proto-Turkic *Kal(ï)- (“to rise, jump up”). Clauson thinks the Turkish form is rather crasis of *kalk-tur-, where -tur is causative suffix. See kalkmak.
