From Ottoman Turkish قطائف (ḳaṭaʿif, ḳaṭāyıf, “shaggy carpets, shaggy plushes with uncut loops, velvets, various kinds of sweet pastry and the material of which they are made”) (alternative form; قطایف (ḳadāyıf)), from Arabic قَطَايِف (qaṭāyif), the plural of قَطِيفَة (qaṭīfa). Doublet of kadife.
