== Kikuyu == === Etymology === Hinde (1904) records ithanoa (pl. mathanoa) as an equivalent of English axe in “Jogowini dialect” of Kikuyu. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ì.ðá.nwáꜜ/, /ì.ðá.noáꜜ/ As for Tonal Class, Armstrong (1940) classifies this term into njata class which includes njata, gĩkabu, gĩtara, karani, kĩihũri, etc. Benson (1964) classifies this term into Class 7 with a disyllabic stem, together with njata, and so on.
