Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اتهام (itham, “a suspecting (a person, of some offence), an imputing (an offence to a person), accusing someone of, holding someone guilty of something”), from Arabic اِتِّهَام (ittihām, “accusation, charge”), verbal noun of اِتَّهَمَ (ittahama, “to charge, to accuse”).
