From Ottoman Turkish اسكان (iskan), from Arabic إِسْكَان (ʔiskān), verbal noun of أَسْكَنَ (ʔaskana, “to settle, lodge”). The original Arabic verb is ditransitive, in the "causing to settle" sense below.
