=== Etymology ===
First used by Professor Guy Tardieu in 1955
=== Pronunciation ===
IPA(key): /ɛ̃.fiʁ.mi.te mɔ.tʁis se.ʁe.bʁal/
=== Noun ===
infirmité motrice cérébrale f (uncountable)
cerebral palsy
Synonyms: IMC; ~ paralysie cérébrale; ~ infirmité motrice d'origine cérébrale, IMOC
==== Usage notes ====
The term is more widely used in France than paralysie cérébrale and sometimes used synonymously instead. However, the main difference is that IMC is a motor disorder “accompanied by sensory impairment and partial impairment of higher functions with the exception of intellectual problems”. This is included under the definition of paralysie cérébrale, thus a more general term or a hypernym. The term infirmité motrice d'origine cérébrale has also been proposed to cover the broader meaning.
