Inherited from Ottoman Turkish التماس (iltimās, “a trying to touch with the hand, a feeling with the hand, a request, solicitation”), from Arabic اِلْتِمَاس (iltimās), verbal noun of اِلْتَمَسَ (iltamasa, “to beseech, to request, to implore, to solicit”).
