hoorndol

التعريفات والمعاني

== Dutch == === Alternative forms === horendol === Etymology === Ostensibly a compound of hoorn (“horn”) +‎ dol (“mad”), possibly referring to the rage of horned animals such as bulls. Alternatively: altered folk-etymologically from a form similar to Middle High German hirnwüetic (“insane”) and modern German hirntoll, with a perhaps more obvious first element of hirn (“brain”) (modern German Hirn) which may also ultimately underlie the first morpheme of this Dutch word. Shakespearean horn-mad may also be mentioned in this context, seemingly supporting the connection to animals' horns and not German Hirn. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˈɦoːrnˌdɔl/ === Adjective === hoorndol (not comparable) (informal) stark raving mad, bonkers Synonym: knettergek ==== Declension ==== === References ===
