ho- (“space, area, things”) + -di- (“color”) + -yi- (transitional) + ∅- (3rd person subject prefix) + -d- (classifier) + -tłʼíísh (imperfective stem of the root -TŁʼIIZH, “to be blue, green”).

it (an area or place) turns blue or green
(with -ił): an area or place becomes contaminated after being struck by lightning (said to turn the land blue or green)
