helium

التعريفات والمعاني

== English == === Etymology === From New Latin helium, from Ancient Greek ἥλιος (hḗlios, “sun”) (because its presence was first theorised in the Sun's atmosphere) with the suffix +‎ -ium. Probably coined by Norman Lockyer. This suffix is unusual, because it is usually used only for metallic elements. It is likely that Lockyer, being an astronomer, was unaware of the usual chemical conventions. === Pronunciation === enPR: hē'lē-əm, IPA(key): /ˈhiː.li.əm/ Hyphenation: he‧li‧um Rhymes: -iːliəm === Noun === helium (countable and uncountable, plural heliums) (uncountable) The second-lightest chemical element (symbol He), with an atomic number of 2 and atomic weight of 4.002602, a colorless, odorless and inert noble gas. Hyponyms: helium-4 (the usual isotope on Earth), helium-3 (the much rarer of the two stable isotopes) (countable) A form or sample of the element. ==== Synonyms ==== E939 when used as a packaging gas ==== Derived terms ==== ==== Related terms ==== helio- Helios ==== Translations ==== === References === Helium on the British Royal Society of Chemistry's online periodic table == Afrikaans == === Pronunciation === Hyphenation: he‧li‧um === Noun === helium (uncountable) helium ==== Hypernyms ==== edelgas == Czech == === Alternative forms === hélium === Etymology === Borrowed from Latin helium. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): [ˈɦɛːlɪjum] Hyphenation: he‧lium === Noun === helium n helium ==== Declension ==== == Danish == === Etymology === From New Latin hēlium, from Ancient Greek ἥλῐος (hḗlĭos) +‎ -ium. === Noun === helium n (definite singular heliummet or heliumet) (uncountable) helium (chemical symbol He) ==== Declension ==== === References === “helium” in Den Danske Ordbog == Dutch == === Etymology === Borrowed from English helium.
