Literally, “until the seeing”, in other words, "until we see each other again". Compare Italian arrivederci, French au revoir, Romanian la revedere, Catalan a reveure as well as parallel and more distant cognates Bulgarian довиждане (doviždane), Russian до свида́ния (do svidánija), Ukrainian до побачення (do pobačennja), Polish do zobaczenia, and Arabic إلى اللقاء.
