=== Etymology ===
haistaa + -ttaa
=== Pronunciation ===
IPA(key): /ˈhɑi̯stɑtːɑːˣ/, [ˈhɑ̝i̯s̠tɑ̝t̪ːɑ̝ː(ʔ)]
Rhymes: -ɑistɑtːɑː
Syllabification(key): hais‧tat‧taa
Hyphenation(key): hais‧tat‧taa
=== Verb ===
haistattaa
(transitive) to tell someone where to go/where to get off/what to do with it (in insults, as in "go to hell!")
Näin parhaaksi haistattaa kaikille vitut. ― I saw it best to tell everyone to fuck off. (literally, “to make everyone sniff cunts”)
==== Usage notes ====
The verb haistaa (“to smell”) is used in various, more or less vulgar interjections commanding the listener to do something — e.g. haista kukkanen, often translated as "fuck you" (very mild though; literally: "sniff the flower") and haista paska (“fuck you”) (strongly vulgar; literally: "sniff the shit") — and that gives the factitive derivative haistattaa (“to have [someone] smell [something]”).
